Dr. Keith Livingstone joins Australian over-55 marathon record holder, Johnny Meagher, in this 2-hour session on the science and practice of optimizing ketosis through diet and exercise to maximize endurance performance. Invoking ketosis is the basis of endurance training, however, can this process be safely and effectively enhanced by the dietary practice of restricting carbohydrates? Dr. Keith and Johnny, based on science and experience both enthusiastically say ‘yes!’ This session addresses the advantages of invoking greater degrees of becoming fat-adapted by utilizing your body's own relatively vast fat stores to provide energy for the bulk of your easy aerobic training buildup, and the latest research behind it. Guidelines for who will most benefit from this practice, how to safely negotiating the territory of implementing a carbohydrate restricted diet without losing energy or speed, and how to stay in one’s Goldilocks zone, will be given.
