KiDSMARATHON26.2 (4.0 Credit Hours) Two sessions 2022 dates coming soon

$60.00

In a society that prides itself on being the leader in research and technological advances, shockingly, our present generation has a life expectancy less than that of their parents. This course was developed to provide educational tools for instructors, teachers and mentors of Rod Dixon’s KiDSMARATHON26.2 program, and is offered as a credit for the Lydiard Foundation LIII coaches. We take a look at the current state of children’s fitness, the basic physical development of children, the importance of providing an environment with daily activities that engage every child in healthy whole-body movement, and how we can instill the Lydiard Principles to encourage children into an understanding and a healthy rapport with their own bodies.

INSTRUCTORS:

Lorraine Moller MBE OLY
Four time Olympian and 1992 Olympic Marathon Bronze Medalist and winner of 1984 Boston Marathon. Co-founder and president of the Lydiard Foundation.

Rod Dixon MBE OLY
Four time Olympian and 1972 Olympic bronze medalist and winner of 1983 NYC Marathon. Founder of Rod Dixon’s KiDSMARATHON26.2, inspiring hundreds of thousands of kids worldwide to run.

SESSION ONE 2.0 HOURS

Health and fitness statistics and trends regarding todays children are alarming and a call to action. Obesity, diabetes and learning disorders are at an all-time high and increasing. We take a look how movement is the foundation for children’s healthy neurological, mental, emotional and metabolic developments and how these are often disrupted by the three ‘SSS’s’ of modern society - sugar, sitting and screens.

Rod will showcase his KiDSMARATHON26.2 in-school program that has shown the way to lifetime fitness for half a million schoolchildren.

SESSION TWO 2.0 HOURS

This session addresses the stages of childhood physical development and the necessary types of stimuli that adults need to provide for children for their healthy growth. The importance of the movement/cognitive connection is discussed.

How we model fitness and sport to youngsters is all-important and we discuss how adults influence children with their words as well as the importance of play and the fun element to create positive feedback loops. We take a look at the heart-field and the studies done on our emotional projections done by the HeartMath Institute and how this affects our children’s sense of well-being.

Physical exercise, training and competition - what levels of exercise and types of competition are appropriate for children at their different ages? We take a look at the Canadian model of Sport for Life which sets youngsters up for an adulthood of healthy sports participation, and how the Lydiard principles may be incorporated to encourage that process.
