INSTRUCTORS:
Dr. Mark Cucuzzella

A family physician, professor at West Virginia School of Medicine, and athlete for over 4 decades, Mark conveys a wealth of experience, knowledge and good common sense based on natural principles. Author of “Run for your Life.”
Barry Magee
A Lydiard legend, Olympic bronze medalist in the marathon, Barry Magee, at age 87, remains one of the premier coaches in New Zealand for the past 50 years. Always true to the Lydiard principles, Barry has successfully coached hundreds of runners of all ages and abilities to personal bests in events from the half mile to the 100miles.
SESSION ONE 2.0 HOURS
Running Long, Staying Alive and Thriving
Drawing from his medical knowledge and his own experiences as an ultra runner, Dr. Mark will give sage advice for going long. The game changes with the terrain and distance of your event. Long runs, fat-burning, leg-building, walking, paces, shoes, fueling, freshening up, and racing strategies are all essential training considerations to ensure you come home safely and satisfied.
SESSION TWO 2.0 HOURS
Lydiard beyond the Marathon
How does a runner adapt the Lydiard pyramid to ultras? Really long runs? Ultra-miles for an ultra event? What about speedwork and intervals?
Barry will share his approach to training for the longer races that has produced exemplary results over decades of coaching. Barry will share his 14-16 week schedules and give pointers on how to adapt them to the individual athlete. One example is a master's athlete who, under Barry’s tutelage, has broken 4 world records in the last 10 years in the 12 hours, 24 hours and 100-mile races. Now at age 68 this athlete is still winning age group races, doing Ultra Training all based on Lydiard’s SUPER principle of superb CONDITIONING.
