How Arthur Shaped Lydiard Training

With Dr. Keith Livingstone and Special Guests Barry Magee and Rod Dixon

Keith Livingstone grew up on Lydiard culture. In this presentation he will show how Arthur developed his highly successful model of Lydiard training. Along with his coach Barry Magee, and the effervescent Rod Dixon, the culture of Lydiard training will be brought to life.

Barry Magee is one of Arthur Lydiard’s original Olympic Medalists, winning a bronze medal in the marathon at the Rome Olympics in 1960, and ranked #1 in the world in 1961. At age 85 Barry still carries the torch for the precious Lydiard Legacy to this day, and continues to coach runners in Auckland New Zealand. Barry will inspire you as he recalls the golden era of when Arthur’s lads dominated the world scene in distance track running under the coaching guidance of Arthur Lydiard.

Rod Dixon is an Olympic bronze medalist whose career was a shaper of the second golden era of New Zealand dominance in track running along with John Walker and Dick Quax. Coached by his big brother, John Dixon, Rod will explain how his training was shaped by Lydiard training, and inspired by the champions of the generation before him.

There will time for Q & A.

This event offers 3 Kick-off Credit Hours to Lydiard III attendees (no exam required). It is free to anyone who signs up for a module over $250, (including LI&II attendees, but credit hours offered only to those already certified LII coaches), and also free to any Lydiard II certified coaches who has recommended a completed sign-up for the Lydiard I & II course.
